Optus, Webcom Expand Data Centers
The Optus data center will be established in Ultimo adjacent to the Sydney CBD by the end of October, the company claimed. It will use the Optus IP backbone, and will be the first Optus Australian data center to offer DWDM (dense wave-division multiplexing) connectivity. CWO has designated floorspace of approximately 3,000 square meters.
"As well as offering hosted solutions, we will actively partner to develop new and different software solutions for the market," said David Stokes-McKeon, director, e-solutions, Cable & Wireless Optus. "We will provide hosting and management of content to companies wishing to outsource their own network management."
Webcom's data center in North Sydney has been expanded to cover 4,000 square metres of floor space, with diesel generator support for 16 days, and staff accommodation facilities. The company has also built a Melbourne center, linked to North Sydney with automatic fault cut-over for disaster recovery/prevention.
