Ue Comm, Vodafone Sign Fiber Optic Deal
The deal, which is worth AUS$20 million (US$12 million) over an initial five year period, includes access to sections of Ue Comm's fiber network in Sydney and Brisbane.
The agreement follows last year's announcement of a AUS$14 million (US$8.4 million) access deal for Ue Comm's Sydney and Melbourne networks.
Vodafone Australia's managing director Andrew Bissex said the expansion of Ue Comm's network to accommodate the original enhancement to the Vodafone network was an important factor in securing this new agreement.
"Customer demand and growth has encouraged Vodafone to seek a reliable partner in Ue Comm, which not only has bandwidth capacity, but also the ability to provide real time monitoring, maintenance and the capacity to accommodate additional growth," said Bissex.
Ue Comm was established in 1997 as a telecommunications and back
office services subsidiary of Melbourne-based gas and electricity
supplier United Energy.
