Mainstream rock music or heavy metal ?

Which do you prefer Alternative rock or heavy metal ? alt rock, but not mainstream though
  • Metal/Heavy Metal is best (recommend http://www.knac.com). Was made to listen to Planet Rock radio the other week and it was really naff.

  • I think to base on facts ALternative music is the more famous than heavy metal only a few like heavy metal to base it to the whole world .

    Alternative music basically raised many super acts....
    Oasis, Coldplay, Muse, etc..... Alternative music is so varied that people seem to listen to it more.... Adn If you like to contest heavy metal had its days in the 80s i think? such as metallica and iron maiden... but i guess theyre fame fades about now.....

    ALthough disturbed's a crooss between both alternative and heavy (i like them )

    Ive got to say.. bottomline...ALternatives the thing to do right now rather than heavy metal......Look at how coldplay is doing right now. thats how you base it

  • What does mainstream have to do with any of this? Just because it is big doesn't mean its good, or vice versa. Could have just left that out in your question. I immediately came to this question expecting something lame because you mentioned mainstream.

    I listen to a little of everything, though 90's alt definitely takes the cake.
    I also love hardcore and punk.

    My pick is alt. rock, but I will listen to heavy metal any day also.
  • I prefer to like underground metal to Mainstream rock and I good Reason why for example:heap

    In my home town in october The band Random hand are comming to play the ticket about £6(in dollars about $11) cheap as chips, they wont sell out, becasue not many people are there Ill be able to meet them after the show and there merchandise isnt that expensive.

    However In december Slipknot, A very Mainstream band, are comming to play in my home town. The Tickets are £30(about $50 something dollars) however I think they have sold out and are going very expensive on ebay, I wont be able to meet them cause of the people and their merchandise will be very expensive.

    I do like a band for it's music but I just don't like underground bands to get that famous if you get my point. And alot of rock is Mainstream.
