GTS Completes Pan-European ISP Platform

Published by: jack 2008-08-30

[London, ENGLAND] Global TeleSystems (GTS) announced Friday that its pan-European ISP infrastructure is complete across 35 cities and 12 countries in Western Europe.

The project, completed five months ahead of schedule, makes GTS the first truly pan-European ISP with its own Internet infrastructure. It plans to make its Internet and e-business services available to businesses throughout Europe.

GTS says that GTS Ebone, its European Internet backbone linking the various cities, operates at 2.5 Gbps with zero packet loss.

H. Brian Thompson, chairman and chief executive officer of GTS, claimed that his company now boasted the most advanced Internet and e-business platform in Europe.

"This enhanced Internet service delivery capability perfectly complements GTS Ebone and our hosting centers to give businesses and Internet-centric companies the pan-European connectivity, speed and quality-guaranteed services to achieve their vision through the Internet," said Thompson.

Amit Pau, president of GTS e-business products division, said the improved quality of service would enable companies to create virtual communities and build better relationships with their customers, partners and employees.

"Our goal is to make e-business easier by lowering costs while improving performance," said Pau.

One of the services that distinguishes GTS from most of the other European ISPs is its bundling of voice and data services, including Voice over IP (VoIP). It also offers the usual range of e-mail, news feeds, Web space, file transfer and Web browsing facilities.

Eventually, GTS plans to extend its fiber network to connect 50 cities, extending its length from 17,500 to 25,000 route kilometers. The network will be linked into a trans-Atlantic dual-cable system that is being planned jointly with FLAG Telecom.
